New Westminster based writer JJ Lee discusses his book The Measure of a Man: The Story of a Father, a Son and a Suit (McClelland & Stewart) onThursday, September 20 at 7:00 PM at Christianne’s Lyceum located at 3696 W. 8th Ave. in Vancouver.

Measure of a Man was shortlisted for the 2011 Governor-General’s Literary Award for Non-Fiction, the 2012 Charles Taylor Prize for Non-Fiction and the 2011 BC Book Prizes Hubert Evans Prize for Non-Fiction. Lee also writes a monthly menswear advice column for The Vancouver Sun (syndicated across Canada) and presents, when called upon, a fashion column for CBC Radio.

Earthwalk

You are invited to join Vancouver’s 100,000 Poets for Change on an EARTHWALK at 10:00 AM, September 29, 2012. Rain or shine. It will be a two-hour easy hike (with some stops!) in Stanley Park and will have half a dozen poets reading select poems calling for the preservation of our beautiful forests and shorelines. A guest speaker will also present a narrative tour of the cultural history and natural habit of Stanley Park. This hike is open to people of all ages. Please come prepared for weather and terrain.

100,000 Poets for Change is in its second year of existence. It’s a day in which poets, musicians, and artists raise awareness of social, economic, and environmental issues in their cities. Poets in hundreds of cities world-wide celebrate this day simultaneously.

Join Ray Hsu, award-winning poet, as he leads a hands-on workshop on the basics on how to write a love letter. Ray will provide samples of successful love letters as well as a list of do’s and don’ts. This work­shop is as fun as it is cute!

Ray Hsu is the edi­tor to Ricepaper as well an award-winning poet. His books include Anthropy and Cold Sleep Permanent Afternoon. Ray lives in Vancouver, where he teaches Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia. On Thursday, May 10th, Vancouver playwright C. E. Gatchalian will launch his book Falling In Time. The evening launch will be held at The Junction and hosted by Vancouver author and comedian Charles Demers.

The launch will feature readings of excerpts from the play by the author as well as actors Kevin Kraussler and Nelson Wong, followed by a Q & A with the author and Sean Cummings, who directed the world premiere. Copies of the book will be on sale and the author will sign books as requested. Falling In Time is being published by Scirocco Drama, one of Canada’s premiere drama presses.
